Maybe you're not comfortable with glasses ...

The lenses cause you problems ...

You want to play sports with freedom and comfort ...

You want to wake up every morning and be able to see ...

Refractive surgery is a set of ophthalmological procedures based on precision and safety that are fully consolidated.

The most common technique to treat diopters is LASIK. It is done by the use of an Excimer laser which reshapes the cornea when is applied under a thin corneal layer about 130 microns thick. This technique is accurate and safe for myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.

Since April of 2008, ICO has been using the Excimer laser equipment from the new Amaris Schwind platform.

Recent advances in the Sixth Generation Laser are already standard practice in our institution.

There are some situations where the application of other techniques to implant intraocular lenses may be more convenient.  For example, in the case of ICL lenses, multifocal lenses for presbyopia and Toric lenses for astigmatism, among others.

In a previous study, we investigated data that influenced refractive surgery and other eye structures to make sure that we treated completely healthy eyes. In great detail we examined the cornea, the pupil characteristics, the lens, intraocular pressure and the whole surface of the retina and the condition of the tear or eye movement.

The Refractive Surgery Unit is headed by Dr. David Andreu, with the participation of Dr. Hector Fariña and clinical optometrists: Montserrat Ortiz, Anna Medina, Juli Viadé, Cristina Hernandez and Carmen Aleson.

What are the main techniques?:

1.
Excimer laser refractive (LASIK, LASEK, PRK) 2.
Intraocular contact lenses (ICL)
 3. Crystalline extraction with the implantation of Multifocal and Toric Lenses 4.
Implantation of Intracorneal Rings 5.
Incisional Surgery for astigmatism
6. Phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK).
