On these dates, the integration process of the Boston Institute of Ophthalmology to the ICOftalmología Private Care Area was completed.
The Boston Institute of Ophthalmology, founded and led by Dr. Antonio Henríquez, has been a pioneering center in Spain for ophthalmic outpatient surgery and has gained wide recognition in scientific and clinical areas of ophthalmology as relevant as corneal transplantation, intraocular lens implantation, corneal diseases and pathology from the use of contact lenses. The center was opened in 1984.
Ophthalmologist Dr. Antonio Henríquez, who is also an eye pathologist, attended Queens University in Canada and Harvard University in Boston. He was professor of ophthalmology at the University of Barcelona and has taught courses for many years at the College of Optics and Optometry of the UPC in Terrassa, Barcelona.
In the last 25 years, Dr. Henríquez has attended to a large number of patients referred by a large number of opticians and optometrists from around the country. He is an advocate of close cooperation between ophthalmologists and optical professionals, always for the benefit of the visual health of the population.
The transfer of care areas, patient care teams, and optometry began in March of 2008 and it has now become totally integrated.
In this new era, Dr. Henríquez is the Corneal and Ocular Surface Unit Consultant and shares his patients with Dr. David Andreu and Dr. Susana Duch.
With this addition, patients in the Boston Institute of Ophthalmology are treated with more advanced processes and technologies, including the Permanent Emergency Department and more developed ophthalmology services. Furthermore, with this addition, ICOftalmología added the Department of Orthoptics and Visual Training led by DOO Carmen Aleson to its Optometry Unit. The department has extensive experience in visual rehabilitation, the treatment of amblyopia, and visual and oculomotor deficits in school age children.
